I. Opening

The meeting was opened at 1:00

II. Minutes

A motion to approve the minutes was proposed by Alto, Seconded by Aultman.

III. Section Update

--Section News
Buxton and Mayfield went to the section retreat on January 4-5. In other news, Section Chief Riley Berg was elected to the position of National Vice-chief. At the Section Retreat, Orca's Chris Schoenthal was elected as the new Section Chief, leaving his old office vacant. Lodge Chief Michael Buxton was then elected to Section Vice-Chief of Operations. Buxton has decided to follow the precedent set by Berg and hold both offices simultaneously.

--2002 Conclave
Schoenthal and Buxton reported on the status of the 2002 conclave, to be held at Diamond Peak Ski Resort, near Lake Tahoe. The weekend event is to be hosted by Tannu Lodge. There will hopefully be access to Snowflake Lodge, a large building only accessible by ski lift. The theme of the event will be either "Bringing Brotherhood to a Peak" or "Bringing Brotherhood to the Peak." It is scheduled for the 13-15th of September.

IV. Budget

Copies of the 2002 budget were passed around for perusal; several errors were found and fixed, including an increase in food per person at the Ordeals. It was decided that the Treasurer would take the changes home and email a revised budget to everyone at a later date, and ratify it at the next meeting. This motion was made by Komorowski, and seconded by Alto.
Joey Fini gave a report on the current Lodge financial situation: there is $9,486 in the Orca Lodge account. At the time, it was unknown whether or not this included the debt owed to Bruce Mayfield.

V. FOS Contribution

It was suggested by the Key 3 to donate $500 dollars to the Friends Of Scouting movement this year, as the Lodge's usual donation of $1000 wasn't feasible at this time. It was noted that the full donation to FOS fulfills a requirement for the Quality Lodge award. It was brought up that it was possible to pay $500 now, and $500 later, when the lodge has more money. The motion was made by Schoenthal, and seconded by Alto.

VI. James E. West Award

It was suggested by the Key 3 to present the James E. West Award to Kitty Harriman. Harriman is the first woman elected into the Order of the Arrow (She was inducted before women were officially allowed in), and is the first female Vigil, which she received in 1973. She attended the 1974 NOAC in the Santa Barbara with Mow-a-Toc Lodge. It was decided to present the award at the Pacific Rivers District Dinner at the Scotia Inn on February 23rd.

VII. Bruce Payment

The Lodge officers, Advisor, and Staff Advisor voted to repay the debt to Bruce Mayfield in full. He was owed $2,462.

VIII. Fellowship Weekend

The Fellowship committee had nothing to report this meeting. A possible location of Elk River was suggested, but was decided against because of travel time for members of Cabrosha chapter. The date will stay the same, but a new location must be found. The location will be announced in the next issue of Orca Spouts.

IX. Patches

Fini brought up that there are less than 200 patches left on the current run. This is not enough to last through the Ordeal season. It was decided to reorder 500 of a similar patch, but with a different colored lettering. This would keep the pattern established by the previous two releases. The new patches will have white lettering.

For NOAC, a totally new design was suggested to replace the "Free Willie" design used in past years. It was noted that the North Coast Indian design was more popular for trading than the Free Willie patch. Joey Fini volunteered to make a prototype ghost Free Willie as a possible patch. Other suggestions were a return of the "Kissing Whales," or a different color scheme on the current issue patch. Nothing was decided at this meeting.

X. Where to go Camping Booklet

Buxton announced his plans to make the book on CD, using either a PDF format, or HTML. It was noted that different browsers view HTML differently, changing colors and formats. A tentative price of $2 per CD was suggested by Mayfield. Buxton also mentioned that the Teen Club he works at in Santa Rosa will soon have the capability to make mass copies of CDs.

XI. LLDC

The current Lodge Leadership Development Course is scheduled at the Lodge Fellowship. Since the course is a requirement for the Quality Lodge award, it was suggested to make it available to more arrowmen by holding it at a different location, or on more occasions through the year. Possible locations include the Healdsburg Scout Hut, before the Lodge Dinner, or a course up north. The course at the Fellowship will remain.

XII. Date of Lodge Dinner Change

It was suggested to move the date of the Lodge Dinner, hosted by Mow-a-Toc 8fa@&4ўEׇp⣓cCPw m0~om1MK]"┞p682%c5@0X6:}8]ŋ jXu\q'o{.
