Orcas in Indiana

Ten contingent members of Orca Lodge attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) held at Indiana University. In addition, six Orca arrowmen were selected for NOAC staff. Approximately 7,200 Arrowmen from all 50 states attended. The theme of the conference, “The Power of One”, focused on the power that we individually have to make changes for good. Following examples given of people in the past, it was stressed that this is OUR time. We were challenged: “If not me, then who? And “If not now, then when?

Conclave a Success!

On September 18-20, Section W3N (formerly W3B) held its first-ever Conclave; it couldn't have been better. The location at Coast Guard Island in Alameda was by far the best thing about this year's Conclave. Instead of setting up our tents in the field of a middle school, we got to use a patch of grass right next to the water! Talk about a great location. Although most of the classes were held outdoors, they were all extremely well run and I, personally, learned some great things (many of which I will be utilizing back in our lodge).

Bruce Mayfield Receives the DSA

The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) was created in 1940 to honor those who rendered service to the Order beyond the lodge level. The award is presented to those Arrowmen who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order on a sectional, regional, or national basis. The award is presented every two years during NOAC. Since the time of the first awards were presented, less than 750 Distinguished Service Awards have been presented.
Bruce Mayfield, from our own Orca Lodge, is one of the 50 Arrowmen who are were presented this award at the 2009 NOAC. On behalf of all Orca Lodge, we would like to say Congratulations Bruce!
